Kind Words from Our Recipients

Bay of Plenty Surf Life Saving

"Our grant from Legacy Trust was used for lifeguard development which included first aid courses, senior lifeguard schools and IRB training. A lifeguard requires a range of diverse skills to be able to handle any situation they come across, so their training is ongoing and intense. Raising funds is a continuous challenge for us so we'd like to say a huge thank you to Legacy and the people of Tauranga who chose Legacy Funerals."

Bethlehem Foundation

"The Bethlehem Foundation provides for student scholarships, educational research, the promotion of Christian education for all ages, and a capital fund for the purchase and development of assets. The $10,000 grant from Legacy Trust was the first donation we received and went toward the fitting out of the Bethlehem Performing Arts Centre - a venue that the whole community can enjoy. Legacy's grant helped us get the project off the ground.

We have a number of community bookings already and we're very excited about the project. We're so very thankful to Legacy Funerals, Legacy Trust and the people of Tauranga for their support." -
Peter Wyatt, Secretary

Cystic Fibrosis Association of New Zealand

"The money granted to Cystic Fibrosis New Zealand’s “Breath4CF” campaign has helped make Bay of Plenty families with a child with CF breathe a little easier. The grant was given to assist local kids with Cystic Fibrosis into physical activity through a small grant to each family to help with the costs of such things as; gym memberships, swimming lessons and even trumpet lessons.

The Breath4CF fund gives all people with CF throughout NZ a small grant each year to encourage them to take part in activity that specifically keeps their lungs working and healthy as research shows this is the best way for people with CF to stay well. Thank you Legacy Trust!" - Kate Russell, Chief Executive, Cystic Fibrosis Association of N.Z

Detour Trust

"As well as providing high quality inspirational theatre, the Detour Theatre Trust offers dramatic education to the Tauranga community. Each week we run drama classes for children, youth and adults and we run classes for the intellectually disabled. The classes are especially beneficial for this group as they help to develop communication skills, teamwork, confidence and imagination.

One of our big projects has been restoring the historic building that we operate out of. Built in 1911, it was actually Tauranga's original Baptist Church and it was relocated here to 17th Ave in the 1980's. Recently the building required work to stabilise the foundations so the $10,000 we received from Legacy Trust couldn't have come at a better time. It helped us finish the project and we were also able to repair and upgrade the seating inside the building. Thank you Legacy Trust from all of us at Detour. A lot of people are benefiting from the work you do." - Devon Williamson, Director Detour Trust

Homes of Hope

"We would like to express our heartfelt appreciation and gratitude for the grant we received from Legacy Trust. We are passionately committed to our vision and mission, that of caring for the most vulnerable in our society - our children. The Legacy Trust donation has assisted with our ongoing operational costs. This has been crucial in ensuring Homes of Hope's ability to continue providing stable, consistent, ongoing care and support for abused and neglected children in Aotearoa. It is an honour and a privilege to serve these precious tamariki - our taonga - our future.

On behalf of the children and staff at Homes of Hope we would like to sincerely thank Legacy Trust and the people of Tauranga for their support"
- Rachel Cavanagh, Homes of Hope

"When Plunket lost a lot of money recently we were devastated. Then we got a call from Legacy Trust and they wanted to give Plunket $10,000. I was blown away by such a generous donation. Everyone at Plunket wants to thank Legacy Trust and all the families who chose Legacy Funerals knowing that the profits go back into the community" - Sandy Coley, N.Z. Councillor RNZ Plunket Society Bay of Plenty

Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind

"Legacy Trust sponsored the 'Blind Boys of Alabama' concert at Holy Trinity Church and donated tickets that raised $322 for the Royal New Zealand Foundation of the Blind. Our display at the entrance created a lot of interest and the publicity's been great for us. Thank you Legacy Trust and thank you to the people of Tauranga." - Dorothy Forbes, Regional Fundraising Manager Bay of Plenty.

Tauranga Foodbank

"Up to two years ago it was common for the Foodbank to issue 5,000 or more food parcels in a year to needy families in Tauranga. In 2009 the number of families in difficulty and relying on the Foodbank for assistance was nearly twice that at 9,500 which means more funds were required to purchase extra food. We are especially grateful to Legacy Trust for its two $5,000 donations, each coming at peak times in the year and providing vital assistance to people and families most in need of help." - Don Brebner, Chairman, Tauranga Community Foodbank Trust.

Tauranga Budget Advisory Service

"We would like to record our sincere thanks to Legacy Trust for the gift of the defibrillator.  Your timing was perfect as we had just completed our Health & Safety module in the morning, so it was fantastic to have you present the defibrillator immediately after our morning’s training.

Thank you for sharing your story with us too.  It’s always lovely to resonate with your Legacy story, and for all our team to hear it first-hand.  The team of volunteers (which includes budgeters, governance committee members and staff members) all absolutely appreciate this great donation and we are thankful that the defib is on-site to use should the inevitable happen." Diane Bruin, Manager/NZCiF

TrustPower TECT Rescue Helicopter

"In these uncertain times and with our costs on the rise, the $10,000 contribution from Legacy Trust came at a significant time for our organisation. Quite simply, without support like this it would be impossible to continue the work we do. Thanks Legacy - not just from us, but from the many people we'll be called upon to rescue this year" - Liam Brettkelly, Pilot/Base Manager

Waipuna Hospice

"We were thrilled to receive one of the first grants from Legacy Trust. We have allocated the $25,000 donated toward nursing salaries and medical supplies. Our annual spend in both these areas is significant as we provide 24/7 specialist palliative care for more than six hundred patients each year in the Western Bay of Plenty. Our community nurses visit patients around the region providing the expert care they require.

This has such a significant impact on our patients, families and whanau at a time that is difficult for everyone. This cannot happen without the support of our community and donations like this one from Legacy. Thank you Legacy and the people of Tauranga, from us all." - Richard Thurlow, CEO Waipuna Hospice

Waipuna Hospice - Operanesia Concert

"Thank you so much for sponsoring the Operanesia Concert. The evening was even better than last year’s event –the experience of performing together more frequently over the last year was really obvious in the boys demeanour, humour, banter and confidence. In addition the programme had greater diversity with the inclusion of guitarist Lanzwel and the amazing soprano Natasha Wilson.  I have not yet had time to work out the exact amount raised for Waipuna, however it will be in the region of $20,000.  An excellent result.  Thanks again, we value your ongoing support and loyalty." - Trish Rae, Fundraising Manager Waipuna Hospice
